Oldies Radio:
‘Oldies’ refers to the music from the 1950’s to early 1970’s. It’s a mixed music genre consisting of R&B, pop and rock music. It also refers to the radio format that specifically broadcast this particular genre.
The nostalgic ‘oldies music’ from the 1950’s to the 1970’s remind us of Elvis Presley, Bill Harley, The Beach Boys, Elton John, Vanilla fudge, Daina Ross, Chuck Berry, The temptations, Chubby Checker and of course the Rolling Stones. But these are just a few shining names that ruled the oldies era.
‘Oldies but goodies’ was a compilation album by DJ Art Laboe, released in 1959. He included various genres of music from different artists into one album. The album had gained huge popularity and owing to its success it remained on the billboards top 100 LP’s chart for over 3 years. And till date 14 sequels have been released of the said album.
Soon after the release of the LP. The name ‘oldies but goodies’ struck a chord in music lover’s hearts. By the late 1960’s everyone had started to refer to the music as ‘oldies’.
